The catalytic role of health systems strengthening (HSS) for the improvement of populations’ health and the protection against health-related financial risks in low- and middle-income countries is well-documented. This module introduces participants to different competing conceptual frameworks and approaches for strengthening health systems. It aims to provide participants with the necessary tools to develop and successfully implement interventions for strengthening health systems in low-and middle-income countries in order to maximize the impact of national disease-control programmes, such as HIV, TB, malaria, maternal and child health.
