Networks as an essential component of successful peace work
Traditionally, networks play an important role in lobbying and advocacy work. Many social movements, including peace movements, can also be understood in terms of networking.
Today, networks are more important than ever, and are employed for various purposes, such as opinion-formation. A whole range of actors, including the private sector and political institutions, but also criminal and terrorist groups, employ various techniques to make networks serve their own ends.
Beyond such uses, networks have many positive functions for peace work: they serve to establish important links, and make it easier to build and maintain contact with partners, target groups and the ‚community‘. Additionally, they help us to better understand the needs of different actors, and to pool local resources in order to better achieve peacebuilding goals.
This seminar provides an introduction to various models for the analysis of networks, including (amongst others) advocacy networks. Participants practice key methods for the establishment and management of networks by means of practical examples.
